The LiveDijk project in Eemshaven applies the technology tested in the validation experiments on a larger scale (both in time and in dike length) in an existing dike of the water board Noorderzijlvest.

The sensor technology has been inserted in the western screen dike around Eemshaven in Northern Groningen over a length of 600 metres. This dike is in a very busy area for shipping and shipbuilding. The dike is burdened by waves and storms on the sea side. The experiment does not pose any risks to safety in the province of Groningen. This was the first test in which the knowledge gained during the experiments at the IJkdijk location was translated into a practical situation.

LiveDijk Eemshaven was set up by Water Board Noorderzijlvest, STOWA in the context of the programme Improving Water Barrier Inspections 2 and Stichting IJkdijk. In order to produce a monitoring and forecasting system for the strength of the LiveDijk Eemshaven a partnership was created with parties including Stichting Flood Control, Deltares and TNO.
